Another sad day for Philippine Football. One of the biggest clubs in the Philippine Football scene has just made an announcement that would rock Philippine Football.
Just shortly after the PFF has released their guidelines for conducting trainings following IATF's approval, Ceres-Negros Football Club has released an official statement saying that the club is now facing a major shake up.
"Ceres-Negros Football Club is currently in talks with investors who will be taking over the management and ownership of the club in preparation for the fourth season of the Philippines Football League as well as the resumption of the campaign in the AFC Cup"
After completion of the acquisition, Ceres-Negros FC as a club name will cease to exist and would be re-branded to a yet to be specified name.
Ceres-Negros Chairman Leo Ray Yanson would no longer be involved with the club, hence the change of branding.
It can be remembered that Mr. Yanson has be very instrumental to the growth and sustained success of the club, leading the team to both domestic and international success.
Under his leadership, the Negrense club had made their way from playing and winning in their regional competitions, then lifting their profile further through their successes in the PFF National Men's Club Championships and their promotion to the United Football League (UFL) 1st Division only on their debut season with the UFL 2nd Division.
It was here where they built their reputation further, fielding top players and management personnel with a serious intent of clinching the country's then top silverware.
They are currently the back-to-back-to-back champion of the Philippines Football League, making them the winningest team in Philippine top-flight football.
News have definitely been deafening news to the clubs supporters, but the club's business decisions could be understood given the serious repercussions brought, in part, by the recent global pandemic.
With Mr. Yanson no longer part of the organization, the fans may feel that the heart and soul of Ceres-Negros is no longer there. But we are waiting how things would progress.
We're hoping that this development would not hamper the progress of Philippine Football as a whole.
The Six-Yard Box PH joins our fellow football fans supporting the club in wishing the previous management, the incoming management, and the club as a whole, success in their new challenges.
